The clamshell orchid's familiar bulb has one (or sometimes 2) leaves and a bit odd because of its upside down orientation. It is also the national flower of Belize, a Central American country and they call it ‘black orchid'. Mostly seen in forests and swamps, clamshell orchids are epiphytic, which means they grow on surfaces of other plants and absorb some nutrients coming from the rain, water or air.
