You may call it ‘old man's whiskers' or ‘3-flowered avens' but it's still Prairie Smoke, a prairie plant which is native in North American all the way to Canada. Its leaves are pinnately divided and sometimes have secondary leaflets, which is arranged in rosette form. The purple reddish (sometimes pinkish) flowers, which bloom during spring, are bowl-shaped and contains seed heads. Prairie Smoke can tolerate light shade but performs best under a full sun, and can attract butterflies.
