A different kind of lettuce is the Yugoslavian Red lettuce which you can grow in your backyard and definitely fresh for picking. It comes from the variety of butterhead lettuce which forms large heads of leaves in burgundy. They're very nutritious and fast-growing lettuces which can be used for culinary purposes. Growing them starts through seedlings and prefer areas with cooler temperatures. A partial shade lover, you can harvest them by cutting its leaves above the soil surface to encourage growth of new leaves.
